So I have one of those simple point and shoot. I was going to say cheap, but it really was not THAT cheap. :D I think my dad paid like 200$ for it like over 1 year ago. Anyways, I am pretty happy with my Canon A570. Today I learned about CHDK and it changed my life. XD Never did I realize that a simple camera had that much potential.

Songs that bring back memories

Something interesting happened to me today, while I was browsing through songs on imeem.
< digression >
imeem is this site that streams songs and allows you to purchase them from amazon or itunes. I think they are one of the million social networking music things that are popping up left and right. I wonder what happens in terms of legality and drms. What is cool about imeem, is that there is a light client on the T-mobile G1. G1 being the first Google android phone. Android being the os/software component. G1 is a pretty neat phone. It has some small flaws, but in whole still pretty cool. I don't know if I can go back to my old phone after using it.

I find that as I age, I tend to ramble on and on, and diverge from my original topic...where was I going with this topic again? Ah yes... so, while browsing through imeem, I came across an old song that I used to listen in undergrad. It is an oldie, but a goodie, Steal Away by Park Ji Yoon. This is the song I listened to in first year, when I was feel blue and down. Trinh was the one who introduced me to this song, he had it in his md when I borrowed it to listen to it on our way to our first calculus midterm. I remember walking under the chem buildings overpass and freezing my but off because of the cold weather, and almost pking in the snow. I was feeling rather anxious and depressed about the midterms. I didn't understand a word she sang, but I loved the melody, and felt a little bit better going to meet my executioner. I remember shuffling in to the large lecture hall and writing my exam on the small desks. The prof decided to print the exams on legal pages and the desks were the small ones that can barely fit half of it. My pencil broke through the pages of the exams a couple of times.
I can't believe how many memories were triggered by that one song. I never thought I would remember so much about it. It has been 8 years now. Wow, time does flies.

Historic election... :)

Yesterday was the US elections. For the first time, an African American was elected to be the commander in chief of the USA. Yay for change. Lets hope everything will get better under Obama's leadership. :)

Watching Anime once more~

Seems I relapsed and started watching anime once more.
I missed it, the predictable plots, the kawaii voices.
Finished watching Ooran Host Club, which is a shoujo anime with a reverse harem type of plot, but not so much that it made me uncomfortable. To counter all of that, I am watching Gundam Seed. :) Like all Gundam I expect it to be full of explosions and mecha action. :)

So weak~ or maybe just getting real old... sighs~

So there is this fitness competition at work for fun, and I can seriously see how out of shape I am.  I can do the endurance/cardio part fine. However, when it comes to the strenght parts, I failed misearably. Need to work on those I guess. I have been lazy and usually I just jog a little bit and don't do weights anymore. I find that the more I work on weights, the more I eat, the fatter I get. XD

On other news, I heard this song on the radio from By2. I really liked it and thought it was a touching cheezy song.  I googled the lyrics and I was surprised at how young they were o_O''. Seriously, they are really young.  Sighs...

So I was thinking of updating to FF3, but was so lazy to go and upgrade it. But FF3 helped me today by giving me the option. :)

Wireless Hell

So I finally decided to move my sister's computer to wireless. However, the internet connection speed was incredibly slow, painfully slow... 52k modem slow. I checked the quality of the link and it was excellent, but for some reason I was only limited to 1Mbps connection. 802.11g is theoretically rated at 54Mb. I read up online and sure enough apparently interference can cause the wireless signal to suffer. So I started the arduous task of switching between channels and checking to see any speed improvements. I also noted that my cordless phone was a big source of interference. It doesn't help that the phone designer thought they will be smart and have the phone hop channels, making my job of finding a suitable channel a painful one. :( Anyways, I finally ended up with a livable internet speed and left it alone. Here is to hoping that no other resident in the apartment complex starts broadcasting more wireless signal and complicating the mess. Speaking of bleeding, the office from across the street has a real strong signal, my scanning revealed that they are at 100 % strength and I am about half a block away. I really don't want to know what kind of signal they must be getting indoors.

The nostalgic walk down memory lane

It all started innocently with a youtube link in one of my old classmate's, Barry, instant message nickname. It was a classic "mockumentary" made by another classmate about our hellish days in Waterloo. I look back in surprise and I am amazed that we managed to survive all that. I wonder sometimes how we did it. Sometimes the work that was asked from us was retarded long , hard and ultimately pointless ( for example, all our real time OS did was to show a clock and a timer, I think we also had a calculator in there.) I don't remember much els in that term, except the lack of sleep, and the dream like state I was constantly in, but I guess this is what gives us a sense of nostalgia when we look back. We can pat ourselves in the back for a job well done for somehow managing not to fail and graduate. However, I wonder if the curriculum that emphasized on a lot of busy work caused a lot of gifted students to get disenchanted and abandon a fulfilling career. After watching that video, I started looking at other youtube videos, there are videos of frosh week, eot, mot, irs. Man... there are so many videos. Sadly none from Hardbooty ( our class). I wish we took some more videos like that to remember our time in hell. :P I feel old now... I wish I was a frosh... When I started my undergrad, I thought I knew what I was going to do. I was totally naive, confident, and clueless. How five years of undergrad took that and turn it around. Now, after all my education and a degree with my name on it, I feel like I know nothing. The more I studied the more I come to realize that my knowledge was limited. :/ Maybe that is how people gain wisdom... or maybe that was just a retarded curriculum.

Granted the story was predictable, the lines were cheesy, but the eye candy was delicious. :)
I really enjoyed myself watching this gadget movie. The best part I think was when Tony Stark was suiting up for his mark 3. The scene reminded me totally of the Blizzard Starcraft 2 cinematic trailer. Which reminds me, that game is going to be so sweet. :D
